From Gilmer turn east onto State Highway 155 North (this is a stoplight). Go approximately five (5) miles
and as you start to climb a hill look for a brown sign on the left that says "Barnwell Mountain Recreation Area" and the
"Barnwell Mountain ORV Park" sign on the right. You have to
watch for the turn off because it is at the crest of the hill and you will miss it if you are not paying attention. This brown sign is
directly across the highway from the entrance. Turn right, go through the gate and up the hill.... you can't miss it.
Barnwell Mountain Recreation Area
6284 N. SH 155
Gilmer, TX 75645
Our office is open from noon Thursdays until 10:00PM and 8:00AM on Fridays and Saturdays until midnight.
Entry into the park after the office closes is not allowed.
The park closes Sundays at 6:00PM except for extended holiday weekends.
Reservations
Barnwell Mountain has six cabins and five bunkhouses available for rent. See the Calendar and Reservations
link above for availability and reservations. Guests are encouraged to make reservations early and on-line rather than wait until
the office is open Thursday through Sunday. Our cabins are popular and are normally booked well in advance.
Electric RV Campground
The Electric RV Campground is located approximately one mile south of the office within the park. We have eighteen
sites that provide a single 30 amp plug and can accomodate any size RV. No water or sewer connections are available but a dump station is available.
Water is available at the park office or at the pavilion between the office and the RV camp ground.
The Premium RV Campground is located approximately 3/4 mile south of the office within the park. We have eight
sites that provide a single connection up to a 50 amp rating. Each space can accomodate any size RV but spaces 7 and 8 should be limited to 34 feet.
Water and sewer connections are available.
The RV sites are designed for a single RV or camping trailer electrial connection. Sharing
of or tampering with the electrical connection box is prohibited.
Each connection box requires a key to access. Vistors can select a camp site and then return to the office for the required key.
A key deposit of $15 is charged. Campers may only occupy one space. Any RV blocking more than one space will be asked to move.
Camping (Cabin, RV, or primitive) implies park usage fees for two days. Visitors leaving
the park before 9:00AM may receive a one day park pass as a partial refund by stopping at the office.
Entry into the park after midnight is not allowed. The office and gate are
closed from midnight until 8:00AM the following morning.
Cabin and RV Spaces during Closed Park Events
Some closed park event organizers choose to manage cabin and RV space reservations themselves. Others allow BMRA to manage the reservations.
If our reservation page for the event date states simply that the park is "scheduled to be closed", contact
the event host regarding reservations.
